#SHOWBIZ: Tomok seeks reconciliation with ex-New Boyz bassist Syuk ahead of Singapore show

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Tomok has not given up hope of reconnecting with former New Boyz bassist Mohd Shukri Mohd Shanushi, better known as Syuk, after nearly 15 years without direct contact.

Tomok, 40, whose real name is Shah Indrawan Ismail, said he had tried calling Syuk and even visited his neighbourhood, but has yet to reach him.

He added that he spoke to Syuk's mother, who passed on the bassist's phone number.

Although his family said Syuk was busy and would get back to him, he has not heard back.

Unsure why Syuk distanced himself, Tomok noted that their last meeting ended on good terms.

He hopes to meet in person to clear up any potential misunderstanding.

"I am not sure why he has distanced himself. The last time we met, our relationship was still good and there were no problems. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding that I was unaware of. If I have done anything wrong, I am willing to apologise," he told reporters during a haj and umrah experience-sharing session organised by Irkaz Travel.

Syuk's return would mean a lot to fans, as he played bass on the band's first two albums—featuring several of their biggest hits—before Zack replaced him.

Tomok added that social media posts show Syuk still singing New Boyz songs, while former bandmates who bumped into him believe he remains interested in the group.

But Tomok insisted he will not force him to return if he prefers to stay away.

"If he does not want to, I will not force him. At least the management and I would have done our best to reach out," he said.

The band plans to keep trying to reach Syuk ahead of their New Boyz Meraung Live in Singapore concert at The Star Theatre on Dec 5.
