How Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin left crew "sobbing" in Netflix's Pride and Prejudice

With a stacked cast including Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin, Pride and Prejudice is one of the most anticipated series of the year as Jane Austen's classic 1813 novel is brought to life by Netflix.

The series sees Corrin portray Elizabeth Bennet, while Jack Lowden plays love interest Mr Darcy. Colman, meanwhile, portrays Corrin's on-screen mother, with other supporting cast members including Rufus Sewell and Fiona Shaw.

Austen's novel is being adapted by Dolly Alderton, with the writer penning a diary with Vogue during the making of the period drama. In the article, they praised the cast members, and shared that Colman and Corrin left the crew "sobbing" during one scene.

"There is such a sadness and such an intimacy to these last days of a production," wrote Alderton in November. "As you wind down, you gradually say goodbye to all the members of the cast until eventually there's only one or two of them left.

"Only Olivia and Emma remain, and they're doing their most emotional scene today. It was scheduled well, as they're now holding the entire history of their characters' stories in their heads, which massively enriches the emotion of their performances.

"More sobbing from me. Sobbing from all of us, actually. Sad to say goodbye to Olivia, who has been an absolute joy on set. Always mucking in and being helpful. I know that's the thing everyone says about her, so it feels so clichéd and luvvy-ish even typing it, but it's true."

With anticipation building for the period drama, it was confirmed last week that the series would premiere on Netflix on 3 December. We also got plenty of new stills, with various actors being pictured.

"When wealthy bachelors arrive in their neighbourhood, the five Bennet sisters must navigate love, family, and society's expectations to secure their futures," reads the logline (via Tudum).

"Jane (Freya Mavor) falls for the charming Mr Bingley (Daryl McCormack), while Elizabeth clashes with Bingley's proud friend Mr Darcy. Unexpected encounters and family scandals force Elizabeth to reconsider her feelings and discover the true nature of love."

Pride and Prejudice streams on Netflix from 3 December.
