Unhealthy air quality in 38 areas nationwide

Haze continued to blanket the country this morning, with 38 areas recording unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings as of 11am.
Johor, which has closed all schools for two days, recorded the highest number of unhealthy air quality readings with eight areas, followed by Selangor with six, Perak with five and Pahang with four.
Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Penang recorded three areas each, while Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur had two each. Kedah and Putrajaya recorded one area each.
Segamat in Johor recorded the highest API reading at 188, followed by Nilai and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan (183 each).
In Johor, Kluang recorded an API reading of 180, followed by Pasir Gudang (179), Larkin (176), Tangkak (173), Pengerang (163), Kota Tinggi (163) and Batu Pahat (162).
In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded an API reading of 178, followed by Shah Alam (170), Klang and Banting (167 each), Petaling Jaya (164) and Kuala Selangor (154).
In Kuala Lumpur, Cheras recorded an API reading of 173, followed by Batu Muda at 169. Putrajaya recorded an API reading of 173.
Melaka recorded unhealthy readings of 173 in Bukit Rambai, 172 in Bandaraya Melaka and 168 in Alor Gajah.
Pahang recorded unhealthy readings in Rompin (176), Balok Baru Kuantan (167), Indera Mahkota Kuantan (164) and Temerloh (152).
Perak recorded unhealthy readings in Seri Manjung (160), Tasek Ipoh (158), Taiping (154), Pegoh Ipoh (153) and Tanjung Malim (152).
In Penang, Seberang Perai recorded an API reading of 156, followed by Minden (155) and Seberang Jaya (153).
Terengganu recorded unhealthy readings in Kemaman (155) and Paka (142).
Sungai Petani in Kedah recorded an API reading of 153.
API readings of between zero and 50 are categorised as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and 301 and above as hazardous.
