Prabowo-Putin explore fertilizer, shipbuilding investment

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Roeslani, said that President Prabowo Subianto's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok discussed several investment opportunities, ranging from fertilizers, energy, and mineral resources to shipping.

According to him, one concrete follow-up to the strengthened cooperation was Pupuk Indonesia's investment exploration for the development of a urea fertilizer plant in Vladivostok.

"We have just signed a joint study to assess Pupuk Indonesia's potential to invest in Vladivostok for urea fertilizer," the minister remarked in a statement on Friday.

He views Pupuk Indonesia’s improved performance and efficiency as an opportunity to expand its overseas investments. Cooperation with Russia is also expected to reinforce national material and industrial resilience.

In addition to the fertilizer sector, Rosan outlined opportunities for cooperation in the shipping sector, where President Putin offered a modern vessel over 102 meters long to support the direct processing of fishery products.

Following up on this offer, President Prabowo vows to send a team to further study the technology and potential uses of the vessel for Indonesia.

Furthermore, Rosan highlighted the planned ratification of the free trade agreement between Indonesia and Eurasia, which is expected to widen trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, especially since Indonesia-Russia trade has increased by more than 12 percent compared to the previous year.

"Thus, the timing is perfect. This will expand trade, cooperation, partnerships, and investment between the two countries," the minister remarked.

Meanwhile, President Director of the state-owned fertilizer company, Pupuk Indonesia, Rahmad Pribadi, said the memorandum of understanding signing for the joint study aligns with the directive for the company to play a greater role in strengthening national resilience while expanding overseas.

He noted that Vladivostok's location facing the Pacific is considered strategic, as the region has long been one of Pupuk Indonesia's main markets.

"This is quite significant because Vladivostok faces the Pacific, a market that has long been Pupuk Indonesia's primary market," he stated.
