The Weekender

The first Strictly Come Dancing dance off of the 2026 series has been confirmed, with two couples now facing the judges' verdict.

Actress Jaime Winstone and professional partner Carlos Gu will go head-to-head with TV personality Chris Appleton and Amy Dowden in Sunday's results show.

The dance off comes after viewers cast their votes following Saturday night's Movie Week special, with the public vote combined with the judges' scores from the opening two weeks of the competition.

The result may come as a surprise to some fans, with Winstone and Gu scoring 21 points from the judges on Saturday night, while Appleton and Dowden received 17.

The second live show saw dog trainer Graeme Hall top the leaderboard with 31 points alongside partner Lauren Oakley, while Australian singer Delta Goodrem and Kai Widdrington followed closely behind on 30.

Movie Week also marked a noticeable change to the show's presenting line-up.

After comedian Josh Widdicombe came under fire from some viewers during last week's live debut, BBC bosses switched the hosting positions for the second show.

Widdicombe spent much of Sunday’s programme in the ‘Clauditorium’ balcony area where Claudia Winkleman once reigned supreme, while Emma Willis fronted the ballroom floor on her own.

Many viewers welcomed the change on social media, with several praising Willis's performance and suggesting the revised arrangement felt more natural.

The dance off will now see Winstone and Gu battle Appleton and Warr for a place in next week's show, with judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke deciding which couple stays in the competition.

One pair will become the first celebrity contestants to leave the 2026 series when the results show airs on Sunday evening.
