Coronation Street confirms more problems ahead for Alya and Adam

Trouble lies ahead for Alya Nazir and Adam Barlow on Coronation Street, with actor Sair Khan teasing that it won't be smooth sailing for the pair as they seek to forge ahead in their relationship.

Speaking to The Mirror, the actor shared that the couple are very much happy in each other's company, but external forces - including family members for both parties - could threaten their shot at love.

"For Alya and Adam, there's definitely not going to be an easy journey," said Khan, who plays Alya. "As much as I want to see them committed, it's not going to be the easiest journey for that to happen. There might be a few obstacles in the way.

"Don't forget, Tracy Barlow was actually responsible for Alya's father's (Kal) death. I guess somewhere that's not forgotten, even though time has passed. So, there is a lot of history there, and a lot of untapped potential either way," she added.

It isn't just Adam's family that could throw a spanner in the works, with the solicitor having a feud with Alya's cousin Idris. With the latter already showing his darker side, Khan teased that Idris could also pose a problem.

"Everyone would be wise to proceed with caution when it comes to Idris," she said. "As much as he's family, he's also a businessman who wants to look out for himself. He's got the taste for success, and he won't necessarily let anyone or anything stand in his way."

"I would like to see Alya realise the way that she was gently manipulated into giving over her shares of Speed Daal, because at the moment, I think maybe it's been a bit glossed over," she added, though she did tease that "there's always time".

Though some people may not want Alya and Adam to be together, Khan very much hopes that the pair can make it work, with the actor sharing that she likes "the idea of them as a power couple".

"They're both serious about their work - they're kind of a modern day version of what we've seen before," she explained. "I love working with Sam [Robertson, who plays Adam] as well, and I really hope it does continue."

"Who knows? Their relationship might get more serious in terms of the drama, which you can't avoid if you're in a soap opera," noted the actor, before stating that she was "here for the drama".

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
