Girl reported missing found dead in Camarines Sur
LIGAO CITY — A 15-year-old girl who had been missing since Aug. 17 was found dead in a vacant lot in Goa, Camarines Sur, with initial forensic findings indicating she may have been strangled, police said.
Police Col. Tyrone Dotimas, director of the Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office, told the Inquirer via Viber message on Sunday, Aug. 23, that the body of Ruby Porteria, a resident of Barangay Catagbacan, Goa, was discovered at about 10:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, in a vacant lot at Belleza Farm in Zone 3, Barangay Matacla, Goa.
Three children picking mulberry fruits discovered the body, which was already in an advanced state of decomposition, Dotimas said.

Porteria was wearing a gray jacket and blue jogging pants when police found her.

Dotimas said police identified the victim after posting a description of the body and its identifying marks on the official Facebook page of the Goa police station.
The victim’s uncle, Jhason Bayos y Veras, told police that Porteria left their residence on the morning of Aug. 17 and went to Tigaon, Camarines Sur. She failed to return home that evening.
Her aunt initially presumed she had stayed with relatives, as this had reportedly been her usual routine, police said.

An autopsy was conducted at about 9 p.m. on Aug. 21 by Police Lt. Col. Michelle Estolatan, a medico-legal officer of the Regional Forensic Unit.
Initial findings showed no apparent blunt-force injuries to the head or other evident external wounds, Dotimas said.

The findings were consistent with the possibility of strangulation. However, this remained subject to confirmation because the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition, he said.
Dotimas said police were reviewing closed-circuit television footage and conducting further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding Porteria’s death and identify a possible suspect. /mcm
