Rather than focusing entirely on the everyday relationships, romances, and domestic chaos that defined the original television series, the cozy mystery books give the four women cases to solve together. Who Ate the Last Slice of Cheesecake? pushes that concept even further with 12 interactive whodunits that invite readers to examine the clues alongside the Golden Girls before the solution is revealed.

It is a surprisingly natural evolution for the franchise, considering a television reboot would be highly divisive without the original lineup. Much of The Golden Girls' appeal came from the sharply contrasting personalities of its four leads and the way they constantly challenged, corrected, and supported one another. Courage is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who previously wrote Murder by Cheesecake and Death on the Lanai, the first two books bringing Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia into the cozy mystery genre.

The series has received generally positive, if somewhat mixed, feedback so far. Murder by Cheesecake currently sits at around 3.5 stars on Goodreads from more than 15,000 ratings, while Death on the Lanai is closer to 3.8 stars from roughly 2,800 ratings.
