Camarines Sur placed under state of calamity due to hike in dengue cases

The province of Camarines Sur has been placed under a state of calamity due to the alarming increase in dengue cases and deaths, according to the provincial government.

The declaration was made upon the approval of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Resolution No. 286, Series of 2026, following the report that there are 1,233 confirmed dengue cases and 18 deaths from January 1, 2026 to September 24, 2026.

"Whereas, this sharp increase in morbidity and mortality severely threatens public safety, overwhelms localized health resource capacities across multiple municipalities and component cities, and necessitates immediate, comprehensive, and coordinated containment interventions," a part of the resolution stated.

The provincial government has called on all local government units, barangay officials, rural health units, hospitals, schools and community organizations to be vigilant and participate in dengue prevention and control activities.

Every Camarinense, the government said, is called to practice the 4Ts against dengue: Taob, Takip, Tuyo, at Tapon and to immediately seek medical attention when signs and symptoms of dengue are observed. — BAP, GMA News
