'I didn’t want to use my head this time': Sai Pallavi reveals she prayed to Sita Maa before playing her in ‘Ramayana’

Sai Pallavi revealed the personal and spiritual approach she followed before taking on the role of Sita in the upcoming film ‘Ramayana’. The actress spoke about preparing for the character during an appearance on Amitabh Bachchan’s television show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.

She joined co-stars Ranbir Kapoor and Ravie Dubey for the interaction, which offered a glimpse into their experiences working on the ambitious epic. When Amitabh Bachchan asked the actors about their reactions to being offered their respective roles, Sai Pallavi explained that she viewed the opportunity differently from her previous acting assignments. Instead of concentrating on what she could contribute to the character, she wanted to understand what the experience could teach her.

She also revealed that she prayed to Sita Maa before moving forward with the role.

Sai Pallavi explains her approach to playing Sita

Sai Pallavi said she wanted to approach the character without preconceived ideas. She described the role as an opportunity to gain knowledge rather than simply demonstrate her acting abilities. The actress also spoke about keeping her preparation open and allowing the experience to guide her.She said, "I didn’t want to use my head this time. Whenever I play a character, I think, what can I give to that character, but this was the first time when I thought - 'What can I get for playing a role like that of Sita Maa? Like what knowledge will I gain from this?' So, I wanted to keep the process transparent.

I didn’t want to think anything about it. I prayed to Sita Maa and went forward with it."

Nitesh Tiwari directs the two-part epic

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ is being developed as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Hindu epic. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi portrays Sita. Yash appears as Ravana, and Ravie Dubey takes on the role of Lakshman. The ensemble also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Arun Govil as Dasharath and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi.

The film brings together actors from different backgrounds to portray familiar figures from the epic on a large cinematic scale.

‘Mangal Rang’ arrives in five languages

The makers have also expanded the film’s musical offering with the release of ‘Mangal Rang’. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita, the song has been released simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The first part of the film will release on November 5, 2026.
