Translate

Jon Tower has been named the permanent executive producer of CBS Mornings, having served in the role on an interim basis since earlier this year.

Tower succeeds Shawna Thomas, who left the show in March.

The morning show recently went through a revamp, with Norah O’Donnell returning as co-host in September, joining Nate Burleson and Gayle King.

CBS News president Tom Cibrowski and editor in chief Bari Weiss wrote in a memo that Tower is “has brought steady leadership, sharp editorial instincts and a clear vision for the future of the broadcast. He is a thoughtful journalist, a creative storyteller, and a collaborative leader who understands both the urgency of the news and the importance of the stories that resonate with the morning audience.”

Tower joined CBS News in 2014 and has served as senior broadcast producer of the morning show. He previously was senior producer at Morning Joe, where he worked for a decade. Variety first reported on Tower’s appointment.
