9-1-1 is finally bringing a fan-favorite pairing together.

The heightened procedural about the 118 is heading into the milestone 9-1-1 season 10. Viewers are still recovering from the loss of Captain Bobby Nash well over a year ago. But during the past 20 or so episodes, the show has moved in the direction of reemphasizing familiar faces and introducing new challenges for a group that has done just about everything.

Still, when new episodes premiere on Thursday, October 15 at 8 PM ET on ABC, there will be something entirely new that devotees of the long-running franchise haven't seen before. It's not an unusually specific emergency or even an unexpected tragedy. It looks to be a one-on-one scene between Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman), which hasn't happened yet despite both characters joining in 9-1-1 season 2.

Hewitt and Guzman announced the news that they'll finally be sharing a proper scene for the first time in the procedural's history, with Hewitt declaring that “Meddie is born.” In the post below, the two actors can be seen poking fun at the fact that it took them this long to become scene partners.

The cast of 9-1-1 has talked about how it looked like Eddie and Maddie were going to be love interests when they were first introduced. Maddie ultimately falls in love with Howard, played by Kenneth Choi, and they've ultimately ended up as a stable couple after some ups and downs. It is nonetheless strange that Guzman and Hewitt haven't had the chance to do much with their characters outside of brief exchanges.

Eddie in 9-1-1

Eddie is Buck's best friend, offering a direct connection since Buck is Maddie's younger brother, who is played by Oliver Stark. Maddie has even suggested, as recently as a few seasons ago, that Buck might have feelings for Eddie. Buck denied that this was the case. Maddie memorably did not look too convinced. She hasn't really raised the possibility since then.

Regardless of the question of whether Buddie will ever become canon, Maddie and Eddie will have no shortage of topics to discuss. Buck is about to become a foster parent. Perhaps though, what starts as a storyline about their biggest shared connection becomes something more fun as 9-1-1 season 10 evolves. Despite how long it took the procedural to get here, it's never too late to make up for lost time.

9-1-1 season 10 premieres Thursday, October 15 at 8 PM ET and streams on Hulu.
