18 new cases of flu-like illness reported in Manila; 1,955 total cases

MANILA, Philippines—Influenza-like illness (ILI) remained the most frequently reported among diseases in Manila, with 18 new cases recorded on Monday, bringing the city’s year-to-date total to 1,955, according to the latest W.I.L.D. diseases report covering water-borne diseases, influenza, leptospirosis and dengue. 

The report, based on data extracted from the Electronic Disease Case Surveillance and Information System (EDCS-IS) as of 7 a.m. on Sept. 28, also recorded 13 new dengue cases, 10 new severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases, three new leptospirosis cases and one new typhoid fever case.

No new cholera or confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded on the same day.

From Jan. 1 to Sept. 28, the Manila Health Department (MHD) had recorded 3,361 dengue cases, 1,955 ILI cases, 1,559 leptospirosis cases, 450 SARI cases, 81 typhoid fever cases, 98 confirmed COVID-19 cases and four cholera cases.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso urged residents not to wait for their symptoms to worsen.

“[M]ga Batang Maynila, huwag nating hintayin na lumala ang mga sintomas. Kung may nararamdaman, magpakonsulta agad sa pinakamalapit na health facility,” said Domagoso in a Facebook post.

The MHD previously reminded residents to take precautions against W.I.L.D. diseases during the rainy season.

It urged the public to keep their surroundings clean, get rid of stagnant water, drink clean water and promptly seek consultation at the nearest health center if they develop or experience symptoms.  /gsg
