Popular chicken wraps recalled from UK shops over E.coli fears

Four wrap products have been withdrawn from shop shelves following concerns over bacterial contamination that could cause kidney failure and prove fatal.

Manufacturer Summit Foods is recalling the Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap due to the potential presence of Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC).

The action covers all items featuring use-by dates up to and including September 5 2026. The Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap was retailed at Iceland and Bestway Wholesale.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has urged customers who bought any of the wraps to discard them rather than eat them.

The FSA noted that STEC can cause severe abdominal pain and diarrhoea. In certain instances, it may result in haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a condition capable of causing kidney failure and fatality.

Individuals experiencing symptoms are advised to stay away from nursery, school or work until at least 48 hours after they are symptom-free to reduce the risk of passing it to others. Informational notices will be displayed in stores and on websites selling the affected items.

Summit Foods said in a statement: "As part of our routine testing, we have identified a potential food safety issue affecting a small number of our wrap products.

"We are working closely with the authorities and our customers to recall the affected products.

"Consumer safety remains our highest priority. We are sorry for any concern or inconvenience this may cause."
