The logo, mascot and slogan for the World Athletics Championships Beijing 2027 were unveiled on Thursday as the event marked one year to go.

The championships will return to Beijing 12 years after the Chinese capital hosted the 2015 edition at the Bird’s Nest.

World Athletics has also confirmed a change in competition dates. The championships will now be held from September 10 to 19, 2027, instead of September 11 to 19.

The additional day will allow the opening ceremony and the first competition session to be held on September 10, while each of the 10 competition days will feature an evening session.

The event logo, named ‘ Jingyue’, draws inspiration from Beijing’s Temple of Heaven and the Chinese character ‘ jing’. A multicoloured running track surrounds the emblem to represent diversity and inclusion.

The mascot, ‘ Jingyan’, is inspired by Yan’er, the mascot from the 2015 World Championships. Its design represents a swallow returning to its nest after 12 years, symbolising the championships’ return to Beijing.

The slogan for the event is ‘Each Step Counts’, highlighting the importance of every stage in an athlete’s journey towards success.

More than 2,000 athletes from around 200 World Athletics member federations are expected to compete across the 10-day championships next September.
