KOTA TINGGI, Sept 7 — An elderly man suspected of slashing his wife’s right hand with a machete at Taman Desa Sejahtera here today has been remanded for four days from yesterday to assist in investigations.

The remand order for the man, who is in his 70s, was issued by the Kota Tinggi Magistrate’s Court to facilitate further investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.

Kota Tinggi Police chief Supt Yusof Othman said the incident at about 9.30 pm was believed to have followed an argument over the television volume, which the victim, also in her 70s, allegedly had turned up too high.

The suspect, who was intoxicated, then allegedly attacked the victim with the machete.

He said the victim sustained a small wound, about one centimetre long, to her right hand and was treated at Kota Tinggi Hospital.

She is reported to be in stable condition, he added. — Bernama
