Foreign tourists caught stealing goods at Phuket 7-Eleven

Translate

PHUKET – A Facebook video showing two foreign tourists caught stealing goods at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Patong has attracted more than one million views, with thousands of comments calling for stronger action against shoplifting.

The video was posted by Facebook user Siriyapron Nina Sujitra, who said she saw a man and a woman taking several products and putting them in their bags before alerting store employees.

She asked staff to check the pair when they came to the checkout. The stolen goods were found on the tourists, according to her account.

After being caught, the pair offered to pay for the products. The woman filming the incident said they should pay 10 times the value of the goods and apologise to the employees.

The tourists paid for the items, and store staff subsequently let them go without contacting police, according to the account.

In her post, Siriyapron warned others to be on the lookout for the pair, saying they had initially denied stealing anything before the goods were found.

The video prompted thousands of comments. One user said police should have been called because CCTV footage was available as evidence.

Another commenter praised the woman for speaking up, adding that people of all nationalities could behave well or badly and that misconduct should be addressed accordingly.
