According to Mid-Day, the production team has clarified that Chopra replacing Reen is the only directorial change, and that Kumar was not officially brought on board. The report states that producers Rangita and Ishita Nandy had initially held discussions with Kumar about the project.

Although she was reportedly excited when the production house approached her, there were concerns about whether she would be able to manage a series of this scale. The producers were subsequently in discussions with Chopra about another project when they felt he would be a suitable choice for The Royals 2. Netflix was also reportedly keen on bringing him on board. The report further states that Kumar’s name became unnecessarily embroiled in the controversy despite her never having joined the production or shot any scenes for the series.

Although discussions for The Royals 2 did not work out, the producers are reportedly interested in collaborating with her on another project.
