Both men’s and women’s teams have hit a purple patch of late.  The Indian men’s hockey team ended its Asian Games 2026 campaign in Japan on a historic note by retaining its crown — a second consecutive Asian Games gold — with an emphatic 5-1 win over Malaysia in the final.

It’s the first time that India has successfully defended its Asian Games hockey gold, which also makes Harmanpreet Singh the first Indian captain to lead the team to two gold medals in the continental event.

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s hockey team humbled defending champion China 1-0 to win its first Asian Games gold medal in 44 years, securing a direct berth at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
