Repair of NLEX sections damaged by continuous rain underway

MANILA, Philippines —Sections of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) that have been damaged by continuous rain are now under repair, with crews working on both day and night shifts, the NLEX Corp. announced on Wednesday.

But the company clarified that the current repair work is just the first of two stages, saying: “A permanent repair will not hold while it is still raining. So we are doing the interim repair now and the permanent repair when the weather clears.”

Meanwhile, work this week included repairs on the NLEX in Valenzuela City and night work on the Spur Road in Central Luzon.

According to NLEX Corp., the repairs are part of a maintenance and safety programme expanded before this rainy season.

Measures announced in June 2026 included the following:

• asphalt overlay between Ciudad de Victoria and Bocaue
• drainage clearing with pumps and detention tanks at Balintawak and Paso de Blas in Valenzuela
• installation of portable flood barriers for low-lying sections
• installation of additional early-warning cameras at creek crossings
• roadside shoulder drainage work
• tree-trimming

From January to May 2026, NLEX Corp. conducted waterway clean-up operations ran in Valenzuela, Caloocan, and Manila in support of the government’s Oplan Kontra Baha program.

Pavement repair is a standing maintenance activity across the NLEX and SCTEX network.

“The program was scaled up in June, not this month,” NLEX Corp. said. “This is that program working through a wetter season than it was planned for.” /atm
