Gurgaon woman biker hit-and-run: Accused will be arrested soon, say cops; what we know so far

Gurgaon police are investigating a viral video of a car hitting a woman biker

GURGAON: Gurgaon Police on Monday took suo motu cognisance of a viral video showing a car allegedly following and hitting a woman biker and said the accused would be identified and arrested at the earliest in accordance with the law.Police are registering a case against the car driver under relevant sections at Sector 56 police station, officials said."The accused will be identified and will be arrested at the earliest and strictest legal action will be taken against all those found involved," police said.The development comes after a woman biker, who identified herself as Sia, shared a video on Instagram alleging that a car repeatedly followed her while she was riding with friends from Golf Course Road towards Bikerburns on Sunday.According to Sia, the driver allegedly asked her to stop and continued following her despite her asking him to maintain distance. She also alleged that the occupants appeared to be drunk.The video, recorded by a camera mounted on her motorcycle, appears to show the car coming into contact with her bike before driving away.Sia said a friend followed the car and confronted the driver at a traffic signal, but the driver denied responsibility and drove away.

She had appealed to Gurgaon Police to investigate the incident and take action against the driver. She also shared the vehicle's registration number in her Instagram post and urged people to circulate the video to help identify the driver.Gurgaon Police said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards road rage, reckless behaviour and unlawful conduct on the roads, and that such incidents would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
