Pagasa: Rains from Choi-Wan to persist over Visayas, Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — The trough of a typhoon outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) will continue to bring rains over Visayas and Mindanao, while Metro Manila may see fair weather conditions in the coming days, the state weather bureau said.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported in its 5 p.m. weather advisory that the extension of Typhoon Choi-Wan will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, and Southern Leyte on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Pagasa weather specialist Daniel Villamil said that similar weather conditions over Visayas and Mindanao may persist in the next few days.

“From today through the coming days—particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao—we can expect cloudy skies, as well as scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, to persist due to the trough or extension of Typhoon Choi-Wan,” he said.

As of 3 p.m., the typhoon was located 2,580 kilometers (km) east of Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 140 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 170 km per hour.
It is not expected to enter the PAR and will continue to move northward towards Japan, according to Pagasa.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience generally fair weather with chances of localized thunderstorms.
“For Metro Manila and most of Luzon, generally fair weather will continue from partly to mostly cloudy accompanied by sudden, brief rains caused by localized thunderstorms,” he said. /das
