IDX shifts focus from stock suspensions to market manipulations

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) plans to reduce its reliance on Unusual Market Activity (UMA) notices and stock trading suspensions, shifting its focus toward securities accounts suspected of involvement in stock price manipulation.
The new mechanism aims to preserve market liquidity while strengthening capital market supervision. Implementation is targeted for early November 2026, IDX President Director Jeffrey Hendrik said at a news conference on Monday.
“We have received a lot of feedback that suspending stock trading disrupts market liquidity. It affects our many retail investors who need liquidity,” Hendrik said at the IDX Main Hall in Jakarta.
Under the new mechanism, the IDX will focus its supervisory actions on specific securities accounts suspected of violations rather than suspending trading in the stocks themselves.
The policy follows coordination between the IDX and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in response to changing market conditions.
“In our supervisory actions, we have chosen not to suspend trading in the stocks themselves, but instead to suspend specific accounts suspected of violations,” Hendrik said.
The exchange will soon brief its members on the new mechanism, he added.
The IDX will also publicly disclose preliminary indications that an investigation into suspicious stock transactions has begun.
During the investigation, the exchange may restrict or suspend the activities of specific securities accounts and examine the exchange members involved.
