Vincenzo Montella’s time as Turkiye coach looks set to end, with the Turkish Football Federation reportedly ready to sack him after Monday’s defeat to Italy.

According to Calciomercato.com, citing Fanatik and Milliyet, the federation has already agreed a severance package and lined up Arda Turan as his replacement.

The 3-1 loss in Bologna was a fourth straight Nations League defeat, after a 4-1 home loss to Italy in Bursa and defeats to France and Belgium. Coming on top of a group-stage exit at the World Cup, it has proved too much for a federation that had stood by him until now.

Montella’s Turkiye exit: severance and record

Montella’s contract ran until Euro 2028 after he signed an extension in June 2025. He will now receive five months’ wages in compensation, a total of €915,000.

He leaves after three years in charge with 21 wins, five draws and 14 defeats from 40 games. Six of those defeats have come in the last seven matches.

His spell did include two big highs: a run to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, and qualification for only the country’s third World Cup, ending a 24-year wait.

Turan, the former Galatasaray, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona midfielder who now coaches Shakhtar Donetsk, is the frontrunner to take over.
