Gender Minister and GES Director-General to visit Obuasi SHS ahead of reopening

Translate

A high-powered delegation, including the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), is expected in Obuasi as authorities prepare to reopen Obuasi Senior High Technical School to continuing students.

The visit comes nearly three months after violent student protests forced the school to close following allegations of sexual misconduct against its headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, who has since been suspended.

The allegations involve 19 female students and were brought to public attention through an investigative documentary by JoyNews journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni titled Inside the Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.

The controversy triggered widespread concern over the safety and welfare of students, while the protests disrupted academic activities at the school. The planned visit by the delegation comes as authorities work towards resuming schooling for continuing students.
