Webtoon-Based Live-Action Series Mousetrap Rises to No. 1 on Global Non-English Series on Netflix
The webtoon-based live-action series Mousetrap has topped Netflix's global Top 10 chart for non-English TV shows for the week of August 31 through September 6.
According to Netflix's rankings released on September 8, Mousetrap reached No. 1 in its second week after debuting at No. 5 in its first week.
The series, which is based on the webtoon Field Mouse, recorded 4.4 million views and appeared in the Top 10 in 45 countries, including South Korea, Malaysia, Oman, the Philippines, Argentina, Mexico, Hungary, Egypt, and Nigeria.
The series follows reclusive novelist Moon-jae, whose life is upended by a mysterious figure known only as "Field Mouse." In a desperate attempt to reclaim what he's lost, Moon-jae teams up with No-ja, a ruthless loan shark who once pursued him.
Hong-sun Kim directs the series, with Jun-yeol Ryu starring as Moon-jae, Kyung-gu Sul as loan shark Noja, and Kyoo-hyung Lee as detective Sun-yong.
Field Mouse was originally serialized from 2017-2020 by webtoon artist Ludovico. Its story is inspired by the Korean folktale "The Rat That Ate Fingernails," which tells the story of a rat that transforms into a human after consuming someone's fingernails.
