Anwar directs Loke, Rapid KL to resolve train congestion

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has directed transport minister Loke Siew Fook, the transport ministry and Rapid KL to resolve the problem of overcrowding on trains.
In a post on Threads, Anwar urged the parties to find an immediate solution to the problem.
“This (overcrowding) happens frequently and disrupts the daily routines of many people.
“We must be more attentive and take action,” he said.
His directive followed complaints by a Threads user last night about overcrowding at train station platforms.
User @siti.anisahj posted photos of congested train platforms at the Gombak and Taipan LRT stations.
“Assalamualaikum @anwaribrahim_my. Can we ask for a few more train coaches? It is like this every day. Driving means getting stuck in traffic, while taking the train means facing overcrowding,” she said.
Anwar’s response received widespread attention, garnering nearly 37,000 likes, more than 360 comments and about 2,200 reposts as of 9.30am.
Rapid KL’s transit services have faced recurring service disruptions, passenger congestion and planned scheduling adjustments due to critical infrastructure projects and aging trains.
In February, Loke said rail operator Prasarana had ordered 26 new train sets for the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
The Kelana Jaya LRT line serves 290,000 passengers daily, making it the busiest LRT line in the Klang Valley.
Delivery of the train sets is scheduled to begin in March 2029, followed by a rate of two sets per month.
