Netflix's Western drama Ransom Canyon gets future revealed after 2 seasons

Netflix has cancelled ranching drama Ransom Canyon after two seasons.

The series, which is based on Jodi Thomas’s novels and stars stars Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland and Minka Kelly as Quinn O'Grady, follows the relationships, rivalries and family conflicts among the residents in a small town in Texas.

Just months after the series aired its second season on 23 July, the show has been axed, Deadline reports.

Following modest viewership for season 1, Netflix gave the drama a shorter episode order and changed several members of the cast for season 2 in an attempt to shake things up.

But the second season still underperformed, drawing in 4.1 million views for its first week of release – a 43 per cent drop from its 2025 opening week, which drew in 7.2 million views.

The show's ensemble cast includes Lizzy Greene (Lauren Brigman), Jack Schumacher (Yancy Grey), Eoin Macken (Davis Collins), Andrew Liner (Reid Collins), James Brolin (Cap Fuller), Garrett Wareing (Lucas Russell), Marianly Tejada (Ellie Estevez).

Showrunner, executive producer, and writer April Blair previously said of the series: "I wanted to do something that felt big and escapist and had the romance, but also had the drama, and the mystery wrapped up in one package. Old westerns did have a romance and drama to them, so it leans into a more bygone era western."

She continued: "At its core, Ransom Canyon isn’t just a town, it’s an idea. It’s the painful longing for your first love. It’s the burning desire to protect your family. It’s cowboys and lovers, grifters and thieves. Lust, deceit, heartache, home … Ransom has it all."
