India ended its badminton men’s team campaign at the Asian Games 2026 with a bronze medal after losing 1-3 to China in the semifinals at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium on Wednesday.
This was only India’s second badminton medal in the history of the Games after Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had won the men’s doubles gold in Hangzhou 2023.
This time in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, the Indian team had secured itself a first men’s team Asiad medal after beating Japan in the quarterfinals. However, it couldn’t abate the might of the Chinese in the last-four clash.
Star singles player Lakshya Sen was up against former world champion Shi Yuqi in the first tie. It was a long and tiring contest but the Indian conceded the lead in the tie with a 16-21, 18-21 loss.

Satwik-Chirag, however, got India back on level terms with a straight-games (21-11, 22-20) win over familiar foes Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang.
Next up, youngster Ayush Shetty was facing Li Shifeng, who is also the defending men’s singles champion at the Asian Games. China regained the lead through Li, who brushed past the Indian with a 21-19, 21-13 victory.
India’s fate was sealed at the end of the second doubles tie when M. R. Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan suffered a 16-21, 21-17, 9-21 loss to He Ji Ting and Liu Yi.
On Tuesday, the Indian women’s team had bowed out of medal contention after losing 1-3 in the quarterfinals to Japan.
