With our social calendars filling up with festive events, and the weather being more unpredictable than ever, it's almost impossible to know what's actually worth investing in right now.

That is, of course, unless you're a fashion editor. Spending most of our working day styling real women and models, as well as scouring through all of the high street's new-in collections, we're uniquely placed to know exactly what should be on your shopping lists.

If you're feeling a little lost as to what you should be adding to your basket right now, the YOU Magazine fashion team have you covered. Read on for a sneak peek into our own shopping lists for the upcoming season. From cosy knitwear to statement party picks, it's a one-stop shop for all your winter shopping dilemmas. And the best bit? It's all under £50, meaning you'll have plenty of money left over for your Christmas shopping, too!

The best affordable picks we're buying this winter

Sophie Dearden-Howell, Fashion Director

Very x Michelle Keegan Cowl Neck Top

I'm already thinking about upcoming festive parties, but want to invest in something that I'll wear again after the party season is over.

This bodysuit from Very's latest collection with Michelle Keegan is perfect. I love the drama, which makes it feel much more expensive than its £30 price tag. Plus, thanks to being a bodysuit, it can be secured in place – avoiding the messiness that often comes with a tucked shirt.

M&S Faux Fur Clogs

Nothing beats stepping into a pair of fluffy slippers on a cold morning. But, it’s almost impossible to find a chic option that doesn’t cost a fortune. I’ve got my eye on this cosy style from M&S and will be wearing them around the house with jeans and a cashmere jumper when I want to feel comfy yet put together.

Pairs Bamboo Socks

Socks might not be the first thing you think about when putting together an outfit, but I firmly believe they can make or break your look.

Switch out your old white socks for a chic pair in a co-ordinating colour and you instantly look put together. I'm currently loving a pastel blue sock and denim jean combo.

Chelsea Peers Pyjama Set

Colder days mean I'm spending lots more time wrapped up indoors. Of course, I want to do this while also feeling my best, so scruffy loungewear is off the cards. Instead, I'll be reaching for this chic 100% organic cotton set from Chelsea Peers.

Refy Concealer

My skin always dries out the second winter hits, so I have to switch up my skincare and makeup routine to match.

My usual concealer was leaving my under eyes looking cakey so, to help solve the problem, makeup artist Levi-Jade recommended this weightless Refy option instead. I have gone for shade 6N, but with 24 shades to choose from, there are options to suit almost every skin tone.

Original Duckhead Mini Umbrella

Don't waste your money on cheap, flimsy umbrellas that break after one gust of wind. Instead, invest in a good quality style that you can use year after year.

Original Duckhead umbrellas aren't only strong (they're wind resistant and made with a steel frame) but their duck-shaped handles are also extremely cute.

Pull & Bear Zebra Midi Skirt

Zebra print has topped leopard this season. I'll be pairing this with black knee-high boots and chunky knitwear for the office and with point toe slingbacks for drinks afterwards.

£29.99 Shop

Habitat Ceramic Lamp

Soft lighting is key to feeling cosy, especially now the clocks have gone back. Habitat's lamp game is particularly strong this autumn.

Hope Palmer, Fashion Assistant

L.A.B  Two Finger Mittens

I love mittens but they're not exactly practical. Thankfully these have separate fingers, meaning you can still be productive while wearing them!

£44 Shop

By Rae Pinky Ring

While I'm not a fan of statement sequins, I like to embrace a bit of sparkle this time of year and so this gorgeous By Rae pinky ring is top of my wish list.

£46 Shop

Another Girl Flower Top

The perfect layering piece. Try it under a boxy tee or poplin shirt, or alone with a slip skirt for more formal affairs.
