Proton Iswara steals the show in Apple's iPhone 18 Pro promo [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: The appearance of a Proton Iswara in Apple's promotional video for the iPhone 18 Pro has caught the attention of social media users in Malaysia.
The national car model, introduced more than 3 decades ago, features in a chase scene in which a group of young people use the vehicle to escape from a mysterious man.
The 58-second video was uploaded by Apple on Sept 23 as part of its #ShotoniPhone18Pro campaign to showcase the smartphone's camera capabilities.
What caught attention was that the entire sequence was filmed in a single continuous shot, without cuts, including a scene of the actors running towards the Proton Iswara before driving away.
The appearance of the car was quickly spotted by Malaysian social media users, with Apple's comment section filled with reactions such as "I saw Proton Saga there", "Wait, is that Malaysia Proton car?" and "Proud to be a Malaysian."
Some users also joked about the appearance of the national car, leaving comments such as "Malaysia mendunia (goes global)" and "I saw Proton, I press LIKE."
The video was directed by British cinematographer Matt Lewis, who was also involved in the production of Netflix series Adolescence.
Lewis used a continuous one-shot technique for the chase sequence, while making use of the iPhone 18 Pro's camera features to create focus transitions as the camera moved.
The Proton Iswara was introduced in 1992 as an updated version of the Saga Megavalve and was previously exported to the United Kingdom.
