‘King of Forex’ Dr Mc Reveals How Trading Cost Him His Job, Savings and Home

Kenyan TikTok content creator Dr Mc, popularly known as the King of Forex, has emotionally recounted how abandoning a well-paying plumbing job to pursue forex trading left him broke and homeless.

In a TikTok post shared on Tuesday, October 13, the young man reflected on his journey from securing employment shortly after completing college to losing his financial stability after becoming attracted to the promise of making money through currency trading.

Dr Mc said he completed his plumbing course in 2022 and quickly secured a job at a Nairobi-based water company, a development that initially gave him hope of building a stable future.

He explained that his dedication and discipline at work earned him a promotion to supervisor, placing him in charge of plumbers reporting for internships.

“After finishing college in 2022 as a plumber, I managed to get a job in one of the water companies in Nairobi. I was so happy; at least I did not struggle to find a job. I worked so hard with a lot of dedication and discipline that I got promoted to be a supervisor to the new plumbers who were coming for internship,” he wrote.

At just 21, Dr Mc said he was earning approximately $350 monthly, excluding allowances, and felt he was making meaningful progress in his career.

“Just imagine, at 21 years, making 350 dollars monthly without adding allowances. It did not take long before Satan brought forex to me,” he shared.

How forex trading lured him away from employment

According to Dr Mc, his interest in trading grew after watching other young people, including fellow content creator Kenyan Prince, make money from the comfort of their homes.

He said the prospect of earning money without the physical demands of plumbing appealed to him, gradually shifting his focus away from the job that had provided him with a steady income.

“Then I started seeing people like Kenyan Prince making money from the comfort of their homes and beds. At the back of my mind, just like any other Gen Z, I wanted easy money that I did not have to sweat hard to make,” he revealed.

Dr Mc admitted that his growing obsession with forex trading began affecting his performance at work. He started skipping workdays to spend more time studying trading charts, eventually attracting attention from colleagues who noticed the decline in his output.

Rather than addressing the problem and balancing his responsibilities, he ultimately decided to leave his job and concentrate on trading full-time.

“I started skipping workdays to have more time to spend on the charts. My performance at work became so poor that it got noticed so fast. When my friends asked me what the problem was, I told them I have discovered how to download money in your bedroom. I finally made a decision to quit my job to focus on trading,” he explained.

‘King of Forex’ says he lost everything and became homeless

Dr Mc said the decision marked the beginning of a difficult period in which he lost the savings he had accumulated and struggled to meet basic expenses.

His financial situation deteriorated to the point that he could no longer afford rent, forcing him to live on the streets.

The former plumber also described the emotional strain the experience placed on his relationship with his family, particularly his mother, who repeatedly tried to reach him by phone as his circumstances worsened.

He revealed that he had sold his phone and resorted to using another person’s device to continue trading.

“I blew everything I had saved and even rent became a problem that I ended up in the streets. Mom called many times; I was off. I had sold even my phone to trade using another person’s phone. Life at a construction site was the hardest, with work sometimes continuing even at night,” he wrote.

His account highlights the financial risks associated with abandoning a reliable source of income in pursuit of uncertain trading returns.
