Nepal boxers train in Guwahati ahead of Asian Games 2026

Even as Nepal is recovering from the massive destruction inflicted by the deadly flash flood due to a glacier collapse, its Asian Games-bound boxers have stayed strong to fine-tune their game at the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Guwahati.

Altogether seven boxers and two coaches from Nepal began training with the Indian pugilists, including Asian medallist Ankushita Boro, on August 10 and would continue until Tuesday.

The Nepal team includes Ramisha Shrestha (51kg), Asmita Duwal (54kg), Kusum Tamang (65kg), Chandra Bahadur Thapa (55kg), Khagendra Roka Magar (60kg), Dan Bahadur Darlami (70kg) and Rabin Nepal (90kg). Raj Shrestha and Deepak Maharjan are the coaches.

They are undergoing structured training under the guidance of SAI coaches Narendra Rana, Trideep Borah and Pranamika Borah.

“The camp has given valuable experience to both Indian and Nepalese boxers. Sparring with boxers from the Indian Army and Meghalaya has given the Nepalese team a strong competitive environment and helped them work on different styles and tactical situations. We hope this exposure contributes to their performance in Aichi-Nagoya,” said Rana.

Nepal boxer Ramisha said, “The facilities, coaching and sparring have helped us improve technically and physically. This camp has increased our confidence ahead of the Asian Games.”
