India is planning to acquire the battle-tested Javelin anti-tank missile system, a move US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said would mark a major step forward in the India-US defence relationship and could open the door to co-production possibilities.
Gor said engagement between the two countries was at “record high levels”, amid growing defence and industrial cooperation.
What is Javelin?
The Javelin is a US-made, single-person, man-portable, fire-and-forget anti-tank missile designed to precisely target armoured threats.
The Javelin deal is more than just a missile acquisition for India. It marks a major step forward in US-India defence ties, offers tactical superiority against armoured threats and could open the door to co-production opportunities, US Embassy in India said.
The system also provides greater survivability through rapid engagement and repositioning, while its multi-terrain capability can support India’s evolving operational needs.
