Why Paris Jackson Is Seeking $600 Million From Michael Jackson Estate

Paris Jackson Claps Back at Claim Her Tattoos Make Her Look "Dirty"

Paris Jackson is taking legal action against her father’s estate.

Seventeen years after Michael Jackson’s death, his daughter is asking his estate to release $600 million into a family trust for her and brothers Prince Jackson and Bigi Jackson, according to court documents reviewed by E! News.

In the Oct. 29 filing, Paris claims that while the estate has generated billions of dollars since her father’s 2009 passing, neither she nor her siblings have received its funding in the trust “Michael intended" to provide for them.

Hence, the 28-year-old is asking a Los Angeles judge to order a partial distribution of the estate’s assets to the Michael Jackson Family Trust, which was set up to take care of Michael’s three kids financially.

Under its terms, Paris as well as Prince, 29, and Bigi, 24, were supposed to begin receiving income from their respective shares when they turned 21 before receiving more portions at age 30 and additional distributions at 35 and 40, according to the filing.

However, the docs state that “Michael Jackson’s family trust remains unfunded.”

And according to Paris’ filing, the lack of funding has left the siblings dependent on the estate’s remaining executor John Branca for the money.

“They instead receive lesser amounts dictated by the remaining Executor,” the docs allege, “who uses this power to deter them from checking his abuses.”

However, The Michael Jackson Estate shared in a statement to People that it cannot fund the trusts in full until other legal matters are resolved, including ongoing litigation with the Internal Revenue Service, which sought $700 million in taxes and penalties.

“The Estate was able to secure a ruling to significantly reduce that amount, but the matter has not been settled and could still change,” the estate told the outlet before denying Paris’ claim that it’s been withholding or reducing payments to the beneficiaries, calling the accusation “a complete fabrication.”

The estate added that more than $200 million had already been distributed for their benefit and noted that, according to Michael’s will, “None of his children receive a distribution until they are in their 30s.”

The statement concluded, “The Estate looks forward to the time when all issues are resolved so that their trusts can be fully funded as Michael wanted.”

But a spokesperson for Paris disputed the estate’s response, telling the outlet, “The Estate is once again deflecting from its own incompetence. Paris called for the trust to be partially funded, something Mr. Branca had the ability and obligation to do long ago.”

The statement continued, “After years of delay, Paris had no choice but to step in herself.”
