A night to remember for PSG in Le Havre. In the opening fixture of Ligue 1's ninth round, the French champions thrashed Le Havre at the Stade Océane, inspired by an outstanding performance from Achraf Hakimi. The Moroccan star scored a hat-trick and provided two assists, playing a decisive role in all five of his team's goals. PSG strengthened their grip on top spot, while Le Havre remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Lille claimed victory in the 'Derby du Nord' against historic rivals Lens (1-0). 40-year-old Olivier Giroud scored the winning goal in the 86th minute.

Kylian Mbappé will be left wondering what might have been after missing out on the Ballon d'Or by just 28 points.

In tennis, future world No. 1 Alexander Zverev comfortably booked his place in the semi-finals of the Vienna tournament. Meanwhile, in table tennis, Félix Lebrun suffered a disappointing last-16 exit despite competing on home soil in Montpellier.
