Translate

Ghana midfielder Jessica Appiah Asamoah has been named Player of the Match after playing a pivotal role in the Black Maidens’ 3-3 draw with Brazil at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The midfielder created four chances, won seven duels and completed three successful dribbles as Ghana fought back from behind twice to secure a point in their second group match.

Brazil took the lead in the seventh minute through Nicolly, but Ghana responded in the 31st minute when Rafia Osman restored parity.

The Black Maidens capitalised on their growing momentum four minutes later, with Gloria Ameaa scoring to give Ghana a 2-1 advantage.

However, Kaillany Rafinah struck in the 44th minute to draw Brazil level before the break.

Brazil regained the lead in the 57th minute through Indy, forcing Ghana to mount another comeback.

In the 85th minute, Jessica produced a decisive piece of individual brilliance, beating two Brazilian players before threading a defence-splitting pass into the box for Priscilla Mensah to convert and secure a 3-3 draw.

Ghana have one point from their opening two Group C matches and will face Canada in their final group fixture, where a victory is crucial to keeping their qualification hopes alive.
