KOTA KINABALU, Nov 8 — The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) has allocated RM600,000 to upgrade basic infrastructure and enhance youths' technical skills in Kampung Murni A under the 2026 Madani Adopted Village initiative.

Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the programme reflected the federal government's commitment to inclusive national development, including in rural areas.

"The Madani Government introduced the Madani Adopted Village initiative based on a clear principle: national development must not leave rural and remote communities behind, while basic amenities and living standards in villages must be improved in a direct, tangible and immediate manner," he said.

He spoke at the 2026 NRES Madani Adopted Village handover ceremony in Kampung Murni A today, which included an allocation of RM500,000 to rebuild a community hall and upgrade a futsal court.

Arthur said the multi-purpose hall would facilitate community gatherings and activities, while the futsal court would promote an active lifestyle and help develop young local sporting talent.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, he said RM100,000 had been set aside for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) on-the-job training programme in collaboration with Keningau GIATMARA.

"The hands-on training enabled youths in Kampung Murni A to develop technical skills and install 25 solar streetlights at strategic locations around the village.

"The solar lights improve visibility and safety along village roads at night, particularly for women and children, while reducing electricity costs and supporting the ministry's sustainability agenda," he said.

He added that participants were also awarded technical skills certificates in solar renewable energy, giving them opportunities to pursue careers in the field.

Arthur also called on villagers to maintain the new facilities as shared assets, promoting unity and community cooperation, and reiterated NRES's commitment to serving rural communities in Sabah. — Bernama
