Tuk-tuk driver faces backlash over 4,000-baht fare after The Weeknd concert

Translate

A tuk-tuk driver has faced online criticism after posting a video of a dispute with two foreign tourists over a 4,000-baht fare for a ride from Rajamangala National Stadium to a hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 4 in Bangkok following The Weeknd’s concert.

According to the video, the driver demanded 4,000 baht when the pair arrived at the hotel. The tourists paid only 400 baht and refused to pay the remaining amount, saying the fare was too expensive for a journey that took about 15 minutes.

The driver then offered to reduce the fare to 2,000 baht, but the tourists still refused and went into the hotel without paying more.

The driver said the fare was higher because he had picked up the passengers at the concert venue. He estimated the journey covered about 15 kilometres from the stadium to the hotel.

The video prompted a wave of comments criticising the driver for charging an excessive fare and saying the incident could damage Thailand’s reputation among foreign visitors. Some commenters also questioned why he had posted footage that drew criticism towards himself.
