Star Wars Officially Kicks Off A New Era In 2027 With Season Of Rebellion

Star Wars is at a pivotal point right now. The latest movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, underperformed at the box office, and it feels like anytime a new movie gets announced, it's quietly canceled later on. The shows on Disney+ have been a mixed bag, and so have the books, video games, and comics. That being said, there have still been some bright moments for Star Wars fans over the past few years. And now, another one of those moments will hopefully arrive in 2027 after the next movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, debuts in May.

Called the Season of Rebellion, this will mark Star Wars entering a new tabletop gaming-sphere. Based on the title alone, we expect it to be set around the time of the original trilogy, which would make sense, considering the core group of Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie still remain the most popular characters around. Plus, it would give players a chance to encounter Darth Vader, which seems like a no-brainer.

Star Wars Gets A D&D Crossover With Season Of Rebellion

Thanks to Dungeons & Dragons' 2027 roadmap, we know the Season of Rebellion will officially bring Star Wars into the D&D multiverse. For now, there's no concrete release date, but the Season of Rebellion has been given a release window for Late 2027. Not only does this mark a new era for Star Wars, but it also marks a new era for Dungeons & Dragons, which will begin bringing other IPs into its multiverse starting with World of Warcraft this November.

For now, little is known about the Season of Rebellion, but expect to see classes, species, and backgrounds from Star Wars incorporated into the latest D&D ruleset. Hopefully, we'll get an adventure book or two as well, but it's possible the sourcebook will simply have a short adventure inside to get DMs and players started. Considering the Season of Rebellion is a year away right now, we should hear more news on this exciting Star Wars crossover in the upcoming months.

This Isn't Star Wars' First Foray Into Tabletop Gaming

Of course, this isn't the first time Star Wars has dabbled in tabletop gaming. Fantasy Flight Games has offered up a number of TTRPGs that let you play as Jedi, smugglers, and more. Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, which you can see an overview of in the video above, is my personal favorite. Those are still available now, if you need something to hold you over until the Season of Rebellion begins.

The hype is already incredibly high for the World of Warcraft book for D&D, and once that's out, it should give us all an idea of what Star Wars will be like in 2027. Between the new Starfighter movie, Ahsoka season two, and this Dungeons & Dragons crossover, next year is already shaping up to be a pretty exciting year for the franchise.
