Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to finish ‘The Batman 2’

Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to help finish The Batman Part 2, which is currently filming in Glasgow.

The sequel to 2022’s The Batman started filming in Glasgow in August but last week, production stopped when director Matt Reeves had to leave the set for personal reasons. “[Filming] will pause for a little bit [but] we’re going to figure it all out,” Bruce Wayne actor Robert Pattinson told Variety.

It’s now been announced that Reeves won’t be returning to finish principal photography but Steven Soderbergh will step in to help out. “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent,” Soderbergh said in a statement. “The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”

Reeves also took to social media to respond to speculation that he was quitting the film entirely. “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part 2. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes,”he wrote.

Some fans have been trying to sneak bottles of the Scottish staple Irn-Bru onto the Glaswegian set of The Batman Part 2, which has been transformed into Gotham City.

The Batman Part 2 will see Pattinson return as the Caped Crusader alongside Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon), and Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth). New additions to the cast include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, and Scarlett Johansson as his wife Gilda. However Emmy-winning The Penguin star Cristin Milioti has said there’s “not a chance” she’ll be reprising her role as Sofia Falcone for the sequel.

After several delays, The Batman Part 2 is scheduled for release on February 18, 2028.

In January, Pattinson spoke about the ambient music that he created while filming The Batman, which remains unreleased.
