SA starts Shield defence with innings win over Victoria

Translate

South Australia has started its Sheffield Shield campaign in the same way it ended the last one, beating Victoria at Junction Oval.

The two-time defending champions wrapped up their dominating start today, beating the home side by an innings and 40 runs.

Fittingly, debutant Noah McFadyen took the last wicket of the game when he had David Moody caught and bowled, after top-scoring with 134 in SA's innings.

McFadyen had hit two sixes to go from 88 to 100, finished with 16 fours and five maximums.

The 23-year-old all-rounder had match figures of 3-65, including Moody's wicket to clinch the game.

Resuming at 7-175 and needing another 89 to bat again, Victoria was dismissed for 224.

Victoria made 244 in its first innings and SA took the game away from them with 508.

Fergus O'Neill top-scored in Victoria's second innings with 62, while Nathan McAndrew and Henry Thornton took three wickets apiece.
