The total number of women who have been found murdered across the East Rand in recent months has risen to seven, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.
Gauteng acting police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana said the case was uncovered after police went through their records at stations across the East Rand.
He said the body of a woman in her late 20s was found in a river in Clayville, next to Tembisa Mall, on 7 September.
“After noticing that there are bodies that are being picked up, we went back to our police stations around and, unfortunately, it came to light that on the 7th of this month, that is last week, [the] body of a female in her late 20s was observed in the river.
“Therefore, this body will also then be included as part of the whole team. Therefore, it’s no [longer] six bodies. This one will include it as the seventh body so that we don’t leave anything,” he said.
Kekana said the woman was found naked but was still wearing her underwear.
