Joseph Adekunle Adegbite Scholarship Foundation Awards N14m to 28 Students as JAASF Promotes Excellence and Integrity in Education
The Joseph Adekunle Adegbite Scholarship Foundation (JAASF) has awarded N14 million in Tuition Support to 28 undergraduates drawn from public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The presentation took place on October 1, 2026, at Golfview Suites and Conference Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, during the Foundation’s annual scholarship presentation event.
Central to this year’s gathering was the topic, “Raising a Generation Against the Olodo Uprising: Reclaiming the Future Through Education, Excellence, and Purpose.” Discussions focused on concerns over declining standards and the growing acceptance of unearned success in various aspects of society.
In the keynote session, participants were urged to reject practices that undermine genuine learning and personal development. Reference was made to examination fraud, miracle centres, sorting, AI-generated academic submissions, and the pursuit of credentials without the corresponding knowledge and capability required to justify them.
The speaker warned that convenience-driven choices often carry hidden costs, remarking that “every shortcut is a loan at compound interest.” Attendees were encouraged to cultivate discipline, competence, personal responsibility, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

The scholarship exercise attracted over 6,000 entries from students across 32 states of the federation. Applicants underwent a technology-driven assessment process that incorporated online proctoring and multiple evaluation stages.
Candidates first completed a 50-question computer-based examination within 30 minutes before proceeding to a timed essay exercise (10Mins). More than 400 applicants progressed to the concluding phase of the competition.
Following the assessments, 28 candidates secured the top category of awards (scores ranging between 75% & 100%) were each granted N500,000 in tuition support. A further 51 participants were recognized with Consolation Prizes of N100,000 each(scores ranging between 65% &74.9%).

Essay topics were tailored to students’ academic levels and addressed issues with direct relevance to national growth and societal advancement. Freshers examined community development initiatives that could be implemented with limited resources. Second-year participants proposed solutions to the country’s security challenges, while third-year students analysed the influence of social media on civic engagement and political consciousness among young Nigerians.
For fourth-year applicants, discussions centred on agricultural expansion as a pathway to reducing dependence on petroleum revenues. Final-year candidates, largely from medical disciplines, explored strategies for addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals and strengthening service delivery within the nation’s health sector.

According to the Foundation, the submissions reflected thoughtful engagement with pressing public issues and demonstrated the ability of young Nigerians to contribute ideas capable of driving meaningful change.
Beyond financial intervention, JAASF stated that the programme seeks to nurture character, encourage intellectual rigour, and inspire a generation equipped to provide solutions to complex national challenges.
The Foundation further reaffirmed its determination to confront the growing acceptance of mediocrity while promoting merit, ethical conduct, and purposeful scholarship as pillars for sustainable progress.
Through this initiative, JAASF continues to broaden opportunities for deserving students and foster a culture that values knowledge, capability, innovation, and service to society.
In the next edition in 2027, the Foundation is envisaging nothing less than 15,000 Applications the Program Coordinator said.
