Some speculate it could be Sofie Turner and Joe Jonas, who Taylor Swift also dated way back when. But fear not: Swift herself confirmed the meaning to Capital FM radio Friday.
“I was hanging out with a bunch of friends, and one of my friends told us that she had been reached out to by the new girlfriend of an ex of hers, asking for guidance on if she had had the same experiences with this guy that this new girlfriend was having,” Swift told the station.
“And everyone in our group just immediately started saying like, 'Oh, I've been through that too,' and telling the stories of when this kind of reach-out had happened for them.”
A music video for the song will air at this weekend's MTV VMAs, starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.
Cleveland!
It doesn't require much decoding to decipher the subject of this song as Swift's husband Travis Kelce. The two got married at Madison Square Garden earlier this year. Fans think she's speaking to her critics in this one.
"He already took me to Cleveland and showed me The Heights," she pens. "And now I'm wearing white, so hate all you like this is the love of my life."
Its simplistic lyrics have Swifties spinning, some upset with her output.
"Cleveland … we need to talk," one user wrote on X. Others are coming to her defence. "Cleveland is corny and THANK GOD IT IS!!!!!! " wrote another.
Pink Clouding
This song seems to be a lyrical apology for being a "liar" in a previous relationship.
“Years later, I still wonder how to tell you sorry,” Swift sings.
Many fans are theorizing it's a message to Tom Hiddleston because of its apparent callbacks to songs from her catalogue like Getaway Car, which fans also think is about Hiddleston. The two were briefly coupled up in 2016.
“Having a Taylor Swift song about Tom Hiddleston in the big 2026 feels like sleeping with a cold pillow,” one user wrote. “Didn’t expect a hiddleswift apology in the year of 2026 i love her bad,” wrote another.
Babylon
Thing is, even Swifties can't pin down exactly what this one is about.
"Am I stupid what is she trying to say in Babylon," one fan wrote on X. "I have no idea what Taylor Swift is singing about in Babylon, but it’s my favourite movie of the year," wrote another.
A look at the lyrics tells you it's about a person who left their small town in Virginia, having regrets at a casino and on a train.
"You never knew that it was Babylon 'til it was gone," Swift writes, leading some to believe it's a message about nostalgia.
