Translate

Tropical Storm Dolly, the fourth tropical cyclone of the 2026 hurricane season, formed in the Atlantic on Thursday, the National Hurricane Center said.

The storm is not named after country music start Dolly Parton, who died this week following a brief battle with cancer. The NHC determines storm names years in advance.

The tropical storm has winds of 40 miles per hour and is moving west at 24 miles per hour, according to the forecast.

The forecast track shows that Dolly remaining at its current strength before weakening and dissipating into a simple tropical wave of energy as it reaches the Leeward Islands late this weekend.

Heavy rain from this system could begin to affect the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday, which include the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola.

This heavy rain may produce flash flooding, especially in areas of higher terrain.
