YTL Corp named main sponsor for FIFA Asean Cup 2026 broadcast

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Corp Bhd has been appointed the main sponsor for the broadcast of the FIFA Asean Cup 2026, following a strategic partnership with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) aimed at bringing the regional football tournament live to audiences nationwide.

The partnership will see RTM, the tournament's Official Broadcaster, televise five selected matches, including three Group A fixtures involving the Malaysian national team, the third-place playoff and the tournament final.

YTL Corp is a diversified Malaysian conglomerate with interests spanning utilities, telecommunications, construction, property development, hotels and resorts, cement manufacturing and technology-related businesses, with operations in Malaysia and international markets.

The collaboration provides Malaysian football fans with wider access to the competition across television and digital platforms, while positioning YTL as a key corporate partner supporting the broadcast of one of the region's major football tournaments.

The Broadcasting Department of Malaysia said YTL's support as main sponsor reflected the corporate sector's commitment to sports development and broadcasting while helping to expand public access to quality sporting content.

It said the partnership was also in line with RTM's role as the nation's primary public broadcaster in providing quality and relevant programming that could be enjoyed by audiences across all segments of society.

"The broadcast of this tournament is hoped to ignite the spirit of supporters and give solid backing to the Malaysian team throughout the competition," the department said.

With Malaysia's campaign featuring encounters against Bangladesh, Indonesia and Singapore, the tournament is expected to generate strong interest among local supporters as the national team bids to progress through the competition and towards the knockout stages.

For YTL, the sponsorship provides an opportunity to strengthen its corporate presence through a high-profile regional sporting event while supporting wider public access to live football coverage.

The partnership also reflects the growing role of corporate participation in enabling major sporting events to reach mass audiences through both traditional television broadcasting and digital platforms.
