Health firm offers free screenings at Lagos fitness event

Avon Healthcare Limited and Avon Medical Practice will offer free health screenings and wellness activities at the return of the Avon Colour Run on November 14 at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos, as the healthcare providers seek to promote exercise and early detection of chronic diseases.

The event, scheduled for 7 am to 11 am, will feature a 5km run, fitness activities, games and health education. Attendance is free, with participants required to register ahead of the event.

The organisers said the programme was designed to encourage healthier lifestyles and raise awareness of the role of regular physical activity and early screening in preventing or managing conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.

The Chief Executive Officer of Avon HMO, Osa Imasogie, said the initiative was intended to make preventive healthcare more accessible by taking health information and physical activity beyond clinical settings.

“Good health is built through the choices people make every day, long before they need care. The Avon Colour Run is our way of making those choices easier and more enjoyable, by getting people moving, giving them access to health information and reminding them that staying well is a shared effort,” Imasogie said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Avon Medical Practice, Akinbiyi Oke, said early screening and regular exercise could help prevent or better manage some of the conditions treated in hospitals.

“Many of the conditions we see in our hospital, such as hypertension and diabetes, can be prevented or better managed with regular activity and early screening,” Oke said.

He added, “The colour run brings that message out of the clinic and into the community, and we look forward to welcoming families, friends and colleagues to Eko Atlantic City.”

First held in 2019, the event is organised by Avon HMO and Avon Medical Practice, healthcare subsidiaries of Heirs Holdings Group.
