The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has declared that Nigeria has moved beyond its period of economic reforms and is now entering an era of prosperity.

She made the declaration on Saturday in Enugu State at the South-East Women Mega Empowerment Rally organised by the All Progressives Congress Women Mobilisation Directorate in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Speaking in Pidgin English, the First Lady said her husband had asked her to assure Nigerians that the country was moving towards economic prosperity.

“Mr President say make I greet everybody. You know why? He say make I tell una say we don do reforms, na prosperity we dey now,” she said.

She likened the transition to the final stages of pregnancy, saying Nigerians were approaching a period when they would begin to enjoy the benefits of the government’s policies.

“You know that when a woman is pregnant, e go dey wonder when the pikin go come. You know that we are pushing into prosperity,” she added.

She also defended the APC government’s empowerment initiatives, contrasting them with what she described as the tendency of political opponents to make promises without taking action.

She said, “We no dey talk, talk, talk and talk alone. I hear una say, talk and do. And you know say e dey pain dem o but e dey sweet us.”

The First Lady further announced plans to empower women across the South-East, saying 250 women would receive N200,000 each to start businesses.

She also announced another empowerment programme for 250 elderly women scheduled for 17 December, adding that the initiatives would benefit 750 women across the five South-East states.

“Come December 3rd, we go give all of una senatorial candidates money to empower on World Disability Day,” she said.

She added that the programme for elderly women would be implemented through APC candidates in the region, urging them to ensure its execution.

Remi Tinubu said she had visited the South-East several times since her husband assumed office and remained committed to supporting women in the region.

She also urged residents to re-elect President Tinubu and vote for other APC candidates contesting state and federal legislative and executive positions.

“Make una vote my husband and others for January 16. Like my sister said, from top to where? Bottom,” she said.

The First Lady said she and her husband had spent the past four years engaging with Nigerians across the country and would continue to do so.

She also challenged the audience to identify similar empowerment programmes organised by other presidential candidates.
