Khaligraph Jones Remembers Raila Odinga as His Hero on First Death Anniversary
Khaligraph Jones has paid an emotional tribute to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing the late politician as his hero as Kenyans mark one year since his death.
The musician, popularly known as Papa Jones, shared his message on social media on Thursday, October 15, 2026, expressing his enduring admiration for the former prime minister.
“Forever my Hero Baba,” Khaligraph wrote, reaffirming the special place Raila held in his heart.
The tribute echoed sentiments the rapper shared during the national mourning period following Raila’s death in October 2025, when he revealed how deeply the loss had affected him.
“Kuna wengine wetu tangu hii maneno ifanyike, sijakua na nguvu. Rest, Baba; it is well. Today being the final day where the pay respects zetu kwa maze, tunasema Rest Baab, it is well,” he wrote at the time.
Khaligraph also described Raila as “1 of 1, forever my hero,” underscoring his admiration for the veteran politician.
Khaligraph honours Raila through fashion
Beyond his words, the rapper also paid tribute to Raila through his fashion choices.
He shared a video of himself wearing a custom black T-shirt bearing the late politician’s portrait on the front, with the word “Jowi” printed on the back.
The gesture added a personal touch to his tribute, reflecting the impact Raila had on him beyond his role in national politics.
Raila died in India on October 15, 2025, aged 80, while receiving medical treatment.
Kenyans commemorate Raila’s first death anniversary
Khaligraph’s message comes as the country marks the first anniversary of Raila’s death on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Family members, political leaders and supporters are expected to gather at Migwena Cultural and Sports Ground in Bondo, Siaya County, for the main memorial event celebrating his life and legacy.
The commemorations have also featured an intergenerational dialogue in Kisumu, bringing together elders, young people, women and religious leaders to reflect on Raila’s contribution to Kenya’s political development.
On Wednesday, October 14, Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga, led a candle-lighting ceremony at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, where relatives and supporters gathered to remember the former prime minister.
Raila served as prime minister from 2008 to 2013 and remained a central figure in Kenya’s multiparty democracy and constitutional reform struggles for decades.
As tributes continue to pour in from politicians, musicians and other public figures, Khaligraph’s message captures the personal connection many Kenyans felt with the veteran leader.
